basics
true original

Incandescent bulbs are the original electrical sources of light and have illuminated our homes for over a century. They are referred to as regular, standard or general purpose bulbs. Aside from some slight modifications over time, the incandescent technology has basically remained the same. The tungsten filament is electrically charged inside of a glass shell that is filled with a mixture of inert gases to prevent the filament from combining with oxygen. Once the current has passed through the filament, it in turn glows, which produces the light we see.

general characteristics
Incandescent bulbs have excellent color rendering and cast a soft, warm light that compares closely with natural sunlight. They are relatively inexpensive to purchase when compared to other lighting alternatives, despite the fact that they are the least efficient in terms of energy consumption and operational costs.

colors and finishes
Incandescents are available in an array of colors and feature different types of coating or finish to suit specific needs. Below is a brief list of the most common finishes with a short explanation of their primary features:

Inside Frost (IF): ideal for general all-round use.
Soft White (SW): reduces the “hot spot” making them easier on the eye.
Clear (CL): perfect for enhancing style and beauty in outdoor fixtures.
Black light blue (BLB): ideal for special effects and holiday lighting.
