Globe Retail Partner Honored by Private Label Manufacturers Association
CVS Wins 2005 Salute to Excellence Award

Globe Electric Company Inc., a leading North American manufacturer and distributor of residential lighting and electrical products, congratulates CVS, one of its U.S. retail partners, for being named recipient of the 2005 Salute to Excellence Home, Health & Leisure Awards in the Decorative Accessories category. This is the inaugural year for the Salute to Excellence Awards, organized by the Private Label Manufacturers Association (PLMA) to showcase and encourage innovation in retail brands. The awards were presented on November 14th in Chicago as part of the association’s 2005 Private Label Trade Show.

CVS is the largest retail pharmacy in the United States, operating close to 5,500 retail and specialty pharmacy stores in 37 states and the District of Columbia. The Round the House Home Decor Lighting line that Globe created for CVS was celebrated by the PLMA for its innovation, presentation, performance and value.

Products considered for the awards were submitted to a panel of judges that included product development specialists, industry representatives, trade journalists as well as consumers.

“We viewed the opportunity to partner with CVS as a way for them to clearly differentiate themselves,” said Globe’s Mike Smith, Globe Electric’s Vice President Sales, USA.  “We are extremely proud to have CVS as a retail partner, and delighted that the turnkey merchandising program we designed for them has met with such great success. We look forward to developing more value-added programs with CVS in the months ahead.”

The CVS concept developed with Globe allowed the retailer to offer a two-pack of Round the House lighting at the same price as a single-pack national brand item.

January/February, 2003 Centre Magazine Best in Business Awards
Winner: Globe Electric - Best Vendor for the Lighting and Electrical Category
Other finalists: Osram Sylvania, Leviton Manufacturing and Philips

Montreal-based Globe Electric is a rarity these days – a privately owned company that combines international presence with personal service. At 70 years old, Globe has established itself as a household name. With over ten products families totaling more than 2,000 SKUs, they are North America’s largest single supplier of consumer electrical products. Here’s how they’ve done it.

Globe has partnerships and operations in North America and Asia to ensure quality manufacturing and efficient distribution. The two management teams consist of Globe president Ed Weinstein and vice-presidents Jack and Gerry Weinstein, located in the Montreal office, and Ken Weinstein managing Globe’s operations in China, called Keystore International. Together, the Weinstein family has implemented the latest inventory management technologies and supply chain systems to create a flexible distribution network. The rest is exemplary inventory management and error-free delivery. In addition, Globe is committed to research and marketing to help its customers on the sales floor.

“Globe has always continued to develop new products year after year in regards to style, products, packaging, the Globe logo, quality, in-store service and attention to merchandisers. I have been working with Globe since 1994 and because I gave them a chance, they have always respected my choices,” says one Globe customer.

Globe is currently undergoing a re-branding process that will project their commitment to reliability and innovation. Buyers are excited with the new program: “In terms of sales support, they are retooling their look and their logo and what they mean for customers. They have done a great job bringing that to the customer through POP, merchandising, packaging, etc. Globe has become a much stronger company and a stronger presence for the customers.”

Being headquartered in Quebec also means Globe has a unique perspective on the Quebec market that many buyers appreciate. “They are a bilingual company so they manage both markets well. That’s very important for me. The Quebec market in lighting is very trendy and stylish and requires more intimate information than on a national basis. And Globe does that very well for me,” explained another customer.
